Life isn't really all that great for 13-year-old Becky Cohen.  Her father has died and now her mother must work to keep the family going.  And she is always so tired.  And she is always finding fault with Becky.  True, Becky doesn't consider herself very pretty but she must have some good points.  She has no friends except her "perfect" little brother.  Becky's one love is playing the violin.  But with money so tight, she is forced to take group lessons at the Y and has a horrible teacher.  Can she ever find the beauty in music that she had before her father died?
