Have you ever had a pet? Did you get tired of taking care of it? Did you like to play with your pet? Did you ever dress up your pet? Well, the boy in our story wanted a pet; but, when he got a pet for his birthday, he decided that he didn’t want this pet. This pet was not exciting. Not Norman! There were other pets that could run and play catch. There were other pets that could curl up on his bed and sleep. There were other pets he could play with. Not Norman. Norman was a goldfish, and we all know how playful goldfish are. Not! So, our narrator decides that he is going to get rid of Norman because Norman is not the ideal pet. No one will trade for Norman. No one listens as Norman’s owner extols the virtues of Norman during show-and-tell. The pet store closes before he can take him back. But that night, something happens in the dark of his bedroom. Read Not Norman by Kelly Bennett to discover the fate of the unwanted Norman.  (Prepared by: Daniel R. Beach for SCASL Picture Book Awards, 2007-2008)
