Bennett, Jay
THE PIGEON
New York : Methuen, 1980.
IL 5-8 .

Brian is 17 and lives in NJ. He gets a phone call from an old girlfriend in NYC. She wants him to visit her ASAP. When he arrives, her room is dark, a stranger kills her, knocks Brian out, and then leaves. The phone rings and wakes Brian up. A voice tells Brian that he’s a "Pigeon" and he's being "set up" as the murderer of his old girlfriend. Brian runs away. The police arrive, yell for him to stop and shoot him in the arm. He gets away. The next morning, he's still hiding from the police, the bullet is still in his arm, the NY Times has his picture in it, and he knows that the only way to avoid going to prison is to find the true murder.
