Ten-year-old Hajdar can't believe his luck.  His mother has agreed to let him go with his friend into the city.  Hajdar has heard stories about life in Kabul and can't wait to see it.  His friend Saber has been to Kabul many times to visit his uncle so Hajdar wasn't afraid of getting lost in the big city.  He knew it would be quite different from the small village they called home.  The boys loaded up with raisins and flowers to sell in the market and set off on a bus to Kabul.  The city was so confusing to Hajdar but he was enjoying it and learning his way around the market.  There was no way for the boys to know just how much their lives were about to change.
SUBJECTS:     Afghanistan -- History -- Soviet occupation, 1979-1989 -- Fiction.
