John Shaw has been admitted into the Purfleet Sanatorium.  Many Seward recognizes him as the man who lives in a mansion near the hospital.  Wanting to help, Mary decides to read John's journal to see if she can find a way to connect with him.  What she finds in the diary will amaze her.  The entries begin during the Great War while John was fighting in France.  There he meets Captain Quincey Harker who is a brave but bloodthirsty leader.  When John's sister meets Harker, they fall in love and plan to marry.  But things are not what they seem.
