Booktalk #1

Growing up as a teenage boy in high school isn't as easy as everyone thinks. Charlie is a freshman in high school. He has just lost his aunt in a tragic car accident. He felt that she was the only one who he could talk to, so Charlie is having a tough time coping with the fact that she is gone and all the other difficulties he runs into throughout his freshman year in high school. To try to let out all these strange emotions, he starts writing anonymous letters to a person whom he knows. Throughout the year, he tells this person everything. In a way, it makes him feel better because he feels that its nice to have someone just listen. To find out what all these letters say, you can read THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER by Stephen Chbosky. (Sarah B., 8th grade student, Rundlett Middle School, Concord, New Hampshire)

Booktalk #2

Dear Friend: Tomorrow will be the 25th of August. That means I've been writing to you for a year. Me and you have shared a lot for the past year. Like my freshman year of high school. Girls like Sam -- - Patrick's sister. She's really nice. I wish you could meet her. I know you would like her. (Read p. 89) If you want to find out more about Aunt Helen and Charles' life, read THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER by Stephen Chbosky. (Natalie D., 8th grade student, Rundlett Middle School, Concord, New Hampshire)
