From 1699 to 1780, Williamsburg was the capital of the Virginia Colony.  Virginia was mostly plantations and small farms.  There were only about 2,000 people living in Williamsburg but many other came to town for business and social reasons.  Colonial Williamsburg has been recreated and offers a glimpse into life long ago.
