Booktalk #1

Theodora is not looking forward to a hot summer in Boston.  Gideon is desperate to find Wycca, his pet wyvern.  This summer will not be boring when these two meet through a magic hole in time.  (New Hampshire Great Stone Face Committee, 2004-05)

Booktalk #2

Theodora Oglethorpe, otherwise known as Dodo, is not looking forward to her summer. Her two best friends are away at camp, her dad, a biologist, is working in the jungles of Laos, and she’s stuck at home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how much you like adventure, things are about to get exciting in her own neighborhood. It seems there is a magical hole through which one can go back to medieval times right in her backyard. One morning, a pet wyvern seeking a cozy place to lay her egg accidentally runs through it. One minute Wycca was by her master’s castle, and the next, she was standing quizzically in Dodo’s yard. Because wyverns are a very special kind of dragon, the magician who owned her lost no time in pursuing her into the future. Luckily for Wycca, and for the magician Gideon, Dodo finds the wyvern in the new nest she has made. Unluckily for all three of them, another magician, one bent on evil magic, is also after Wycca and her egg. This then is an adventure story about a race to find the wyvern first. Read Hatching Magic to learn whether Wycca and Gideon safely make it back into their own time and what role Dodo plays in it all.  (Kristin Robinson, LMS Dwight Elementary School, Fairfield, CT)
