Tengo and Frikkie are friends. They've spent every school vacation together. As they grow older, their friendship is strained. Frikkie accepts the condition of his life and wants to quit school to work on the farm. Tengo wants a change. He's curious about the world beyond the farm. It's ironic because Tengo is Black and seems doomed to life of a farmhand and Frikkie is white and the son of the landowner. Frikkie goes away to school. How the two meet again as young adults is a surprising encounter with Tengo having power -- the question is will they both survive?
