While on his way to  the apple orchard with his granddaughter, the old man stops to wave and say hello to everyone.  When his granddaughter asks how he knows so many people, the tells her that he may not know them by name but he knows their hearts. He tells her the story of his escape from slavery with just a few apple seeds in his pocket.  He tells of the good people who helped him along the way.
