AKAVAK, AN ESKIMO JOURNEY
New York : Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1968.
IL 3-6
ISBN 0152017313
Akavak's father has asked him to help his grandfather make a last trip to his birthland -- a harsh trip for the healthiest of hunters. Akavak has been warned that grandfather's mind has begun to wander, it's Akavak's job to keep up the trek and not let grandfather switch to the mountains. What would you do if you got the last cache of food before the major journey and a bear had beaten you to it? The logic of going to the mountains to hunt outweighed Akavak's father's warning. This short story tells the resulting adventure.
