Cynnie doesn't exactly have the ideal life. Her mother is an alcoholic and has a series of boyfriends who move in and out rapidly. Even though she is only 13, Cynnie is the primary caretaker of her 3 year old brother. Bill has Downs syndrome and Cynnie does the best she can. But it isn't enough.
