Lyza is the daughter of two very eccentric parents.  They live in a small Maine town in the year 1918.  Lyza dreams of leaving the town and heading to college in Portland.  But things may not turn out the way she wants.  The flu epidemic has come to her town and now it has claimed her mother.  Can her father be expected to take care of himself?  He never has before.  Even the relatives believe that he should be put away in an institution.  Lyza had a very hard decision to make.  And she will find some very unusual help in her journey.
