Imagine going about your daily life with just your everyday worries to keep you company.  Then, with no warning, people just disappear?  How would you explain it?  That's what has happened to the folks in this book.  A flight attendant can't understand where about a third of the passengers have gone during a flight to London.  All that is left on their seats are their clothes.  At the same time, people are disappearing all over the world.  A video tape of of youth soccer game shows all the players just disappearing out of their uniforms.  As people disappear, crashes occur as cars are left with no drivers, airplanes are left with no pilots and trains have no conductors.  As the day wears on and people try to make sense of what is going on, it becomes clear to Captain Steele, Buck Williams, Bruce Barnes and others what has happened.  Christ's Rapture.  Jesus has come to earth and taken the true believers to heaven.  Everyone else has been LEFT BEHIND.
