"The Starting Block" is the story of fourteeen-year-old Teddy Livingston and his brothers growing up in 1967 Pittsburg.  Teddy is fourteen, with one brother older and one brother younger.  This is the first book in a new series written for boys, but also to be enjoyed by girls as well as adults of all ages.  Humorous, touching and a true slice of Americana, the boys struggle with growing up as they compete with and against each other in the swimming pool and in life.

Teddy is just like any other boy as he tries to figure out the mystery of girls, why he thinks the way he does, why he feels the way he does, and why he does what he does.

Teddy struggles with new and heretofore unknown feelings and emotions, gets into his share of trouble, has ordinary ups and downs, and tries to understand the meaning of it all.

This is a great book, the first book in the 'Flip Turn Series', and it ia billed as a companion series to Penelope Dyan's 'Surfer Girl Book Series'.  'Surfer Girl' was recognized by the Girls Voices In Literature Datatbase, University of Miami, Florida for quality of writing, positive gender image, and storyline.

This is a fun read, and it is a book you will be certain to enjoy. (Penny D. Weigand, Bellissima Publishing, LLC)
