For her 8th birthday, Claudine receives a beautiful doll from her parents.  Sure she has other dolls, but this one is very special.  Claudine names her Violette and they become close friends.  To Claudine, Violette is her best friend.  Things in Paris are changing and Claudine needs all the friends she can get.  The Nazis have occupied France and now all the Jews in the country have to wear yellow stars.  As her mother sews the star on Claudine's coat, Claudine sews one on Violette's cape.  Will Claudine and Violette be able to survive through this dark period?
