ANASTASIA, THE LAST GRAND DUCHESS
(The Royal Diaries)
New York : Scholastic, 2000.
IL 5-8
ISBN 0439129087
This is another in the series of royal women in history. It is very well written and the historical background is well integrated into the story. I would ask students if they saw the popular 20th century version of this story and ask them what characters they remember.  Then I would remind them that even though that was a fictional film that there are truly people from history named Rasputin (or Father Grigory) and Anastasia.  As the story begins Anastasia is attending a winter ball in her honor.  Her life is filled with enormous privilege but as the leaders in the country change so does Anastasia's fate.  From a winter ball to a dark dungeon... find out what was to become of Anastasia.  (Lisa Paton ldhp60@aol.com)
