Maritza Gabriela Morales Mercado (Gabí), a spunky third-grader, is introduced in this new series. She speaks English at school and Spanish at home, but tends to confuse the two languages when she gets “super-stressed.” Gabí’s main problem is her classmate Johnny who teases her until she loses her temper. Her first solution to this problem is using her favorite red boots, but her grandmother inspires her to use her head and not her feet. Spanish words and phrases are interwoven naturally throughout the text, but a glossary is included for those readers who need additional help.  (Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award Program, 2004-2005)
