The story of the buffalo can not be told without the important relationship between Indians and the buffalo.  Although the Indians hunted the buffalo and used it for meat and hides, there was a unique relationship between the two.  The Indians also honored the buffalo.  When the Europeans came to America, they slaughtered the buffalo and drove them to near extinction.  This corresponded to the treatment of the Indians as well.  But now that many Indian tribes are reviving their own culture, they are also bringing back the buffalo.  This is a fascinating history of the shared story of the buffalo and the Indians.
