Rosa is a 14 year old illegal immigrant from Mexico who can only find work in the U.S. as a prostitute in order to send money home to her mother.  Traci is a privileged 14 year old American who has always had a perfect life and everything she wants.  On the surface it seems like neither girl has anything in common.  Sadly, they are each trapped in worlds that have a twisted focus on beauty and youth:  Rosa dreams of being a model and knows that her youth and beauty get her more customers than older prostitutes.  Traci has been coached by her mom her whole life to believe that a beautiful and youthful appearance are all that matter so that you can marry a rich man.  Chapters alternate between the parallel stories of these two young women until one day their lives intersect.

This is a bilingual book: when you are finished reading in English, you can flip the book over and read it in Spanish.   (Davinna Artibey, Center for International Studies, Denver Public Schools, CO)
