Chris and Billy have been hanging out together for years. Chris is great at tennis and also like bass fishing. They have a good time hanging out with mote, a drifter with a Vietnam War past that keeps him from living indoors. He helps the boys build a shelter then takes of right after a teacher at school has been killed. A knife made by Mote was found at the scene of the crime. Chris believes in Mote and gets into trouble trying to find the real murderer.
