None of this was supposed to happen.  If only her new stepmother hadn't been the worst stepmother you can imagine.  Then she wouldn't have been shipped off to England to live with relatives she had never met.  But when she arrived, Daisy felt totally at peace with these new cousins.  The farm in the countryside was so different from the apartment where she lived in New York City.  When Aunt Penn is called away on business, Daisy and her four cousins were left on their own.  It's not as bad as it seems.  The kids range in age from Osbert, age 16. The twins, Edmond and Isaac, age 15.  And little Piper who was 9.  Everything was actually quite nice and Daisy began to feel part of the family.  But then the unthinkable happened.  War broke out.  And now the kids are cut off from everyone and trying to survive.
