 Imagine a world in the future.  A world with little water.  It started when the polar caps melted.  The Canada dammed the rivers leaving the midwest with little water.  Now it is almost impossible to get fresh water.  Vera and her family have to depend on purchasing desalinated water.  The water is not really a substitute for the real thing.  As a matter of fact, Vera's mother is very ill and Vera and her brother blame the water.  When Vera meets the mysterious Kai, she experiences a very different life.  There is plenty of water and Kai even shows her a secret spot where there is fresh water.  But when Kai is kidnapped, Vera and her brother face dangers they have never imagined.
