Can you count?  It's easy, isn’t it, especially when there are pictures showing all the items you are asked to count.  However in this book you are going to be asked to count in ways that you never thought about.  To add more fun, there is a poem with each illustration.  Let’s try one:

Sweet Cherries
Apples are crabby, berries are blue
Cherries are sweet and so are you!
How many cherries do you see?
                           Please don’t count them separately
Pair the cherries bunch by bunch
Add them quick before they’re punch!

For a fun game, read each riddle to solve its puzzle!  (Jean Bellavance bellavance@erols.com for Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards, 2003)

SUBJECTS:     Mathematical recreations.
                        Word problems (Mathematics)
