Long before politicians talked about saving the environment and the media promoted "save the planet" efforts, a young woman from Pennsylvania was telling anyone who would listen about the environment.  Rachel Carson was born over 100 years ago and she became fascinated with nature as a young girl.  When she grew up, she went to college to learn about sea animals.  She wrote several books about life in the sea.  She even wrote about the dangers of spraying pesticides on trees.  People didn't believe her at the time but she has been proven right.
