Yolen, Jane.
ODYSSEUS IN THE SERPENT MAZE
New York : HarperCollins, 2001.
IL 3-6, RL 4.7
ISBN 0060287357
What were the Greek heroes like as teens? Odysseus already is set to be a hero as he tries to kill a wild boar. He is brave, somewhat brash, often stretching the truth to suit him. Mentor, his buddy, is far more cautious and hesitant. Helen is vain and spoiled, mostly concerned with her appearance. Penelope is very resourceful, loyal and brave. Wonderful adventures as Odysseus and Mentor try to get home from his grandfather to Ithaca. The incredible exploits filled with monsters and daring deeds makes this story a real page-turner!  (Jean B. Bellavance for Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards, 2003-2004)
